After graduating from Skyline, I attended BYU for four years to earn a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in history teaching. In the midst of that experience, I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Milan, Italy. Afterward, I returned to Italy as a student to study the Italian language and art.

After graduating from BYU, I worked at Riverside Elementary School in South Jordan for a year as a six grade teacher. At the end of that year, I moved to New York City and found a job teaching middle school science at I.S. 234 in central Brooklyn. Shortly after my move, my future husband Bob proposed and we were married shortly thereafter.

The following year I chose to leave the field of education and worked at Fidelity Investments as a Financial Representative. At the same time, I earned my masters degree in Politics and Education from Columbia University. Two weeks before my final comprehensive exam, our daughter Ariella was born.
